Non-Clinical Job Idea #2

Non-clinical business idea (#2) for my Home Health colleagues:

Over the years of doing home health, we go in some nasty places. Am I wrong?

We see moldy house. Junked up houses. Houses with bullet holes. Yards that have been let go. Houses that could look totally different with a good pressure wash and a lawn cut. I would say even the large majority of properties in this CMS-based demographic need help, just like the people do. They haven't been able to do much to take care of their home, or throw things out, because of their illness.

Here's the opportunity, if you choose to see it.

House full of junk = offer to remove the junk. Even offer to remove the junk and sell what you can to bring them more income, while you take a cut of what you sell for them. Make it all legal and legit, of course. You might even clear some of the pathways in their house that are trip/fall hazards. You might make them WANT to be more mobile because the house feels more open; more ALIVE.

You don't have to do it long term if you can't physically handle it. So, pay some teenagers or find people who just need some part time pay and get them to help you. Build the business, quit the heavy lifting, and run it. You can even go back to your old HHAs (or colleagues in HH) and market your services to them, and give them a cut for a referral.

And there you have a sustainable business based on an opportunity you see almost EVERY DAY, AND it gets you out of patient facing care.

Not to mention what you will learn along the way that could lead you to something else.

(Oh, and did I mention that you could eventually sell the business that you've built up??)
